Mental health assessments help provide diagnostic clarity and a plan for intervention. These assessments typically involve gathering information about an individual's mental health and determining whether their symptoms meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis. Children and teens can experience mental health difficulties (e.g., anxiety and depression) which can significantly impact their daily functioning. The process typically includes clinical interviews and standardized questionnaires. Sometimes, the assessment process may also include cognitive and academic testing (which would then be included in a psychoeducational assessment), depending on the referral question(s).
