Giftedness is typically identified when an individual demonstrates cognitive abilities at or above the 98th percentile on standardized intellectual testing.
The cognitive assessments used may include the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence – Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) for younger children, and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V) for older children and teens.
